Maintenance Reminders to Start the Year Right

Keep Your Home Safe and Efficient with These Seasonal Tips for January – March

Regular maintenance is essential to protect your investment and ensure your home operates at peak performance. As the season changes, now is the perfect time to check key systems and components. Following these simple steps can help prevent costly repairs and keep your home comfortable year-round.

January

  • Change A/C and furnace filters: Slide out the old filter and insert a new one, matching airflow arrows. Improves air quality and HVAC efficiency, reducing energy costs and wear.

February

  • Tighten toilet flange bolts: Remove plastic caps at the toilet base and gently tighten bolt with a wrench. Prevents leaks that can damage flooring and subflooring.
  • Tighten toilet tank bolts: Use a wrench to snug bolts connecting the tank to the bowl. Stops tank wobbling and potential leaks.
  • Replace flapper valve: Turn off water, flush, unhook the old flapper, and attach a new one. Prevents running toilets and water waste caused by worn-out rubber valves.
  • Tighten sink drainpipes and water connections: Hand-tighten nuts under sinks; use pliers if needed. Prevents slow leaks that can cause mold or cabinet damage.
  • Clean faucet aerators: Unscrew, soak in vinegar or CLR, rinse, and reinstall. Removes mineral buildup to maintain water pressure and cleanliness.

March

  • Vacuum and disinfect floor ducts: Remove registers, vacuum inside, and spray a bleach-water mix. Reduces allergens, dust, and mold in your HVAC system.
