Maintenance Reminders

• Check decks, porches, and steps. These areas get very slick when wet or icy; consider installing an antiskid type material on them.
• Winterize air conditioning systems. If you have central air, cover the outside unit with a tarp or plastic sheet and secure with bungee cords.
• Clean carpets. Shampooing can leave residue; try steam cleaning as an alternative. Have them looking great before the family visits for the holidays.

Roof Repair & Maintenance “There are many different types of roofs on manufactured housing. First, we have metal roofs, often used on a moderately priced single section manufactured homes. This type is rolled on from end to end, then stretched and secured at the manufacturing facility. Multi-section homes usually have asphalt shingle roofs. Some multi-section homes can have metal roof but not a rolled roofing as described above. More commonly used for multi-section homes would be a standing seam metal roof as used on site-built homes. I have seen standing seam on both single and multi-section homes…” –Jim McKelvey

Make Your Home Safer in Wicked Weather “Wicked weather can happen anytime, anywhere. Being prepared will offer you, your family and your home greater protection. The Manufactured housing Institute offers the following tips. Take Shelter – Often times, the safest place to be during a storm is at home or in a designated shelter, depending on the storm’s severity. That said, it’s important to know more about how your home was constructed. Keep in mind that new homes are subject to regional safety standards to help ensure they can stand up to extreme conditions likely to occur in the area. So, if you live in an older home, consider retrofitting it with newer products that are more resistant to high winds…” -MHI

Scott Bennett has been a leader in the Manufactured Housing Industry and Real Estate Investment industry for over 25 years. Scott currently works in Private Real Estate Investments and serves on several Housing Boards in Texas. Mr. Bennett has helped create and implement strategic and tactical marketing initiatives with both CMH and Sun Properties for property management programs in the Texas Markets over the last 20 years. Mr. Bennett serves as a board member for State Associations in both Austin and Dallas. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Business from University of Tennessee. He has been recognized both nationally and locally for his outstanding achievements throughout his career. This year will be Mr. Bennett’s twelve year on the board of directors and is currently our Board Advisor.

Dorothy Da Roza

Dorothy da Roza is a native of Southern California. She retired from the Los Angeles Superior Court where she served as a court reporter with over 30 years of experience. Dorothy moved to Orange, California in June of 2000 and has enjoyed living in a manufactured home at Santiago Creek, a 55+ senior community. Ms. Da Roza has served as the Vice President of the Home Owners Association and currently serves as the “Sunshine and Shadows” card sender for get well and sympathy wishes to residents. She volunteers for the Orange County Read Program as an English tutor for all learners sponsored by the Orange County libraries. She is also a phone counselor for the Opossum Society of the U.S. Ms. Da Roza joined Factory Built Owners of America in 2008 and is seeking election for her twelfth term as the board secretary.

Lisa currently works with a Private Commercial Real Estate Investment Trust as a Sales Development Professional and has earned several awards throughout her career for her sales and property management accomplishments. She has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Ms. Mendoza is a member of the Texas Manufactured Housing Association, National Association of Residential Property Managers, Pearl Rotary and San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce where she recently graduated from the highly acclaimed Alex Brisenio Leadership Development Program.

An over 20 year veteran of the manufactured housing industry, Barry has worked in several capacities in the manufactured housing financial services arena over his career. Currently, he works as the Sales and Marketing Manager with Credit Human Federal Credit Union directing their sales and marketing efforts. In addition, Barry currently serves as the Vice President of the Kentucky Manufactured Housing Institute, a member of the Manufactured Housing Institute’s Financial Services Committee, Board member of Kentucky Housing Corporation, and member of the Board of Directors at Next Step Homes among other organizational participation. Barry is the newly elected Board President of Factory Built Owners of America. Barry is a graduate of the University of Kentucky holding degrees in Business Management, Marketing, and Agriculture Economics. His hobbies include gardening and attending University of Kentucky sporting events.

Jim Mckelvey

Jim McKelvey has over 50 years of experience in the Manufactured Housing Industry. He began his career during high school working for his father in the family owned dealership that was established in 1951. Mr. McKelvey worked in every aspect of the dealership from delivery and installation, to sales, to service, and to management. He served as president of the Alamo Chapter of the Texas Manufactured Housing Association in the 80’s. Jim has also served in recent years on the board of directors of TMHA as a Lender Representative. Jim also worked for 16 years helping a credit union develop a program to finance manufactured housing. Jim is retired now but is still a regular contributor of articles for FBOA’s quarterly newsletter. Jim has served as an FBOA board member since 2003 and is the Board Vice President. Jim Loves this Country, the MH Industry, and the Lord.
